CSI Iowa: True Crime Tales
Jump into the universe of blood spatter, bullet fragments, and fingerprints! Join retired Des Moines Police Crime Scene Investigator, Greg Gourd to learn about the real-world challenges of forensics and discuss procedures that investigators use to collect and document evidence at a crime scene. Learn the facts and myths of forensics at this fascinating event. No registration required. This program is intended for an adult audience.
Blank Park Zoo Show & Tell
Join zookeepers from the Blank Park Zoo to learn about fascinating animals at this hands-on program. Zookeepers will introduce attendees to four different animals from the zoo. The program will be held on the library lawn, and attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket to sit on.
Upcycle a glass Oui yogurt jar to hold a succulent or air plant with a simple macramé holder. Plants will not be provided, all other materials are. This program is for teens in grades 5-12 (grade just completed). Registration opens at our Summer Reading Kick-Off on June 2nd.

Return the books when you’re done with them - keep the craft! The July theme is “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” and includes a selection of our favorite fiction and non-fiction books about incredible friendships. The craft is a set of painted terracotta coasters. Library Closed for Independence Day
The Newton Public Library will be closed Monday, July 4th, in observance of Independence Day. Regular hours will resume on Tuesday, July 5th.
Teen Beach Pebble Cactus Art
Teens in grades 6-12 (grade just completed) are invited to make their own beach pebble cactus art. We’ll paint beach pebbles to look like a cactus then “plant” them in a flower pot. Call the library at 641-792-4108 to register.
DIY @ the Library: Mini Galaxy Planter
Make your own painted mini galaxy flower pot! Attendees are encouraged to bring an apron or wear clothing for painting. All materials provided. We’re looking for library trustees! Applicants should live in either Ward 1 or Ward 2 and must be a citizen of Newton age 18 or older, and a registered voter. Library trustees work with the Director to develop and adopt governing policies, approve operation budgets, and advocate for the library through contacts with general public, civic organizations and public officials.
