The New York State Fair opens Wednesday, Aug. 24 and there’s plenty of time to get your tickets in advance.

Here’s everything to know about tickets and admission at the fair this year:

Tickets are $3 every day. The fair is free for senior citizens (anyone 65 and older) and for children 12 years old and younger.

You can buy tickets in advance at nysfair.ny.gov or by phone at 1-800-514-3849 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday.

You can also buy tickets at the gates using kiosks with a credit card, or by using a QR code posted at the gate to purchase them on your phone.

Like last year, you WILL NOT be able to pay cash for tickets at the gate.

Unlike some past years, there will be no “$1 day” where tickets are just a buck.

The fair will accept St. Joseph’s Health Amphitheater tickets for entry on the day of a concert this year. Country musician Brad Paisley plays at the Amp on Thursday, Aug. 25. If you’re going to that show, you can enter the fair free that Thursday by showing your ticket.

Certain groups of people get in for free on the fair’s special days. Those days are:

Tickets for rides on the midway are sold separate from admission passes. An all-you-can-ride wristband costs $30 on weekdays (Monday through Friday) and $35 on weekends (Saturday and Sunday). You can get a $5 discount if you buy those wristbands online before noon on Wednesday, Aug. 24 (opening day).

There’s a “mega pass unlimited” ride wristband that’s good for unlimited rides all 13 days of the fair. That costs $75 and is available online at nysfair.ny.gov/midway.

All midway rides will be $1 per ride on Monday, Sept. 5 (Labor Day).

Individual ride tickets can be purchased at $6.25 for five tickets at kiosks on the midway.
